Kevin's Blog With featured columnist Jeff George

Random Thoughts

If you read the previous post, you know that Kevin will be discharged today. We have learned that this process usually takes most of the day so I thought I would use part of this time to share with you some of the things I have learned this past week. If these pearls help just one person, my time will have been well spent. OK, you are never too old for stuffed animals. If someone falls, do not laugh until you are sure they are not bleeding. Passing gas in a hospital room is a much anticipated and enjoyable event, but only by the patient, not by visitors. When trying to be helpful around a patient's bed, do not sit on, stand on, or shake their catheter, even in an attempt to be funny. I seem to have a better attitude after going a week without watching the news and stock market. The 3 antidepressants and 2 anti-anxiety medications may have helped too. If you are enjoying good health, celebrate. If you love someone, tell them. If you have to choose between visiting your son's room or your wife's, don't. The first few days, try to make sure the patient's gown is secure in the back when they are walking the halls. After this adjustment period, you can stop as they no longer care. I know there is more but this is a blog and not a book. I thank you all for reading and the comments have been terrific except for a few, and you know who you are.

Of course, I read them to find out how Carrie and Kevin are doing but I know the news will always be presented in a humorous way and I so look forward to it. You have to admit being hooked on this is better than being hooked on “trash tv”! Continuing in prayer always!
